As an American who lives and works in
Sweden, I am constantly looking at life from different perspectives. My
mission is to be useful to people who suffer. In order, to do that I
need to seriously take on and be willing to feel that suffering. During
the 35 years I have been working as a clinical researcher I am proud of
having contributed to helping people with chronic constipation, people
with epileptic seizures in the developing nations who have no access to
medication , children with asthma, chronic pain sufferers and people
struggling with excess weight.

I truely enjoy people and often marvel at their complexity, stamina and creativity. I am inspired by helping people to understand and relate to suffering in a way that helps them to grow and thrive. Becoming a psychologist has always felt like a privilege. It allows me to get close to other human beings, share their perspectives and hopefully contribute to helping them get back on track towards a vital life.
I am intrigued with people and love when a person allows me to look behind his/her facade, share their suffering and together find a path forward.
When a person feels trapped and there is no hope.
I have always liked to work with people who don’t usually get therapy for different reasons. Some may live far away from places therapy is given, others may not feel they have the time and others still may not have the courage or energy to go where therapy is provided . I always felt it was better to work in the clients home or where the problems arise. Online therapy is a way for me to be in the clients own context. Being in your context, whether at home or at work helps me understand the problem better, helps me to be more innovative and tailor possible interventions as well as be better at generalizing new skills for other future situations.
Here are some general good principles:
Try to notice and separate actual feelings and bodily sensations from you reactions to these sensations. As a rule it is your reactions or the way you are relating to a feeling or sensation that is causing the problem, not the feelings or sensations themselves.
No one can insult you without your permission.
Hold your thoughts lightly.
